President Deni pushes for direct elections as term nears end

 

President Deni and several political parties pledged on Sunday to advance direct elections despite only thirty days left in Deni's presidency. 

In response to this development, opposition groups have announced plans to issue a statement in the coming hours. Deni's announcement comes on the heels of a recent decision in Puntlant to suspend the formation of a committee dedicated to parliamentary approval and dispute resolution, citing the need to allow space for all parties to seek solutions collaboratively.

Deni has expressed his readiness to engage in discussions with opposition leaders, but only to encourage their participation in the one-person-one-vote election process. He emphasizes the importance of conducting these elections peacefully.

A committee from SSC-Khatumo is expected to release a statement on Sunday detailing their progress in resolving the ongoing electoral disputes. Sources indicate that President Deni is reportedly dissatisfied with decisions previously made by the SSC.
